About me

I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with over 23 years of experience working with adults with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties. I also hold a qualification to practice as a Group Therapist and can offer 1:1 therapy as well as group psychotherapy for adults.

I am committed to providing a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment where we can explore issues and acknowledge psychological pain which may have been present throughout your life, or that may have developed over time in response to difficult life experiences and relationships. The aim of our work together may be to identify, better understand and work through the issues that are impacting negatively on your life, to allow positive change to occur.

The type of therapy I practice is a relationally informed psychoanalytic approach.  This type of therapy seeks to understand the unconscious beginnings of present problems. It not only relieves symptoms but enables deeper self-understanding so that life can be lived more fully. Although my training is in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, I think it is important to adapt an integrative approach dependent on what feels most appropriate for the presenting issues that one brings to therapy.  Therefore, I draw in a range of therapeutic approaches.

I have extensive experience of working with trauma, including complex trauma and PTSD, personality problems, personality disorder and relationship / interpersonal problems. I have worked in a therapeutic community with people with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder for many years and I am able to adapt my practice to each person’s needs.

I offer a free 15minute consultation that enables us to think about what you are seeking therapy for and for me to consider if I might be able to help before committing to a full assessment.

I am registered with a range of insurers including AXA, Aviva and Vitality Health.

What to expect in the first session

The first session is an informal kind of assessment session where I gain an idea of what is going on for you in your life and an impression of some of your background. It is a two-way process, so it is also an opportunity for you to assess me and clarify any questions you may have. There may be questions in your mind such as:  How do I feel about this person, could I trust this person, does this person seem to understand me, is she likely to be helpful?

To some extent these questions are always in our mind when we first meet anyone, but they are crucial ones in therapy because of the importance of the relationship.

Interventions offered:

Psychoanalytic/Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy Group Therapy

MBT (Mentalization Based Therapy)

Trauma-Focused Therapy Approach

Working with adults in 1:1 therapy and group therapy

I have extensive experience working with people who present with many different emotional and psychological difficulties, such as problematic relationships, identity issues, sadness and loss, anxiety and depression, alongside more complex enduring mental health conditions. I have more specialist experience of working with people with personality disorder and complex trauma.

If you are struggling with something which is not on the lists above, you are welcome to contact me to discuss if I can help.
